The highly anticipated Janthir Wilds expansion for Guild Wars 2 is now live, bringing a wealth of new content that promises to transform the player experience. This first installment of the expansion introduces new maps to explore, exciting missions, the powerful Kodan Spear that unlocks new mastery lines for all professions, an enhanced version of the Warclaw mount, and, at long last, the much-requested player housing feature.
Following the intense events of Secrets of the Obscure, Tyria once again unites to bolster allied defenses. In this expansion, you embark on a diplomatic mission to Janthir, home to the enigmatic Lowland Kodan. As you explore the two new maps, you'll have the opportunity to forge strategic alliances and, of course, confront new dangers that emerge at every turn.
One of the standout features of this expansion is the introduction of player housing in Guild Wars 2. With the Homesteads system, expansion owners will receive a plot of land and a space to personalize and decorate their own homes. The expansion comes with a robust set of tools and over 300 decoration items, allowing each player to leave their personal mark on their new abode. Additionally, each home includes a stable for your mounts, resource upgrades, and plenty of space to accommodate your alternate characters, who can also be customized and placed anywhere on the property.
The mount stable will be an invaluable resource, especially with the updated Warclaw. Previously limited to competitive WvW battles, this mount’s new version now allows you to explore the vast open world of Tyria. With a new mastery track, the enhanced Warclaw can perform multi-jumps, sniff out hidden treasures, and even assist in combat, adding a new dimension of exploration and strategy.
The Kodan Spear, meanwhile, brings an extra layer of depth to the game. Once wielded, any profession gains new ways to play, with fresh combos and renewed strategies. The spear arrives with a series of adjustments, made in response to community feedback, ensuring that every player has an enriching and challenging experience.
Beyond these innovations, this first part of the expansion also introduces updated rewards in the Wizard's Vault, a new world boss event that challenges groups of up to 50 players to face powerful titans, and a new instance called Convergence. Following the success of the first Convergence in Secrets of the Obscure, the expansion now presents a new 50-player encounter in Janthir Wilds, where these same titans are faced in completely renewed battles.
But this is just the beginning. With updates planned for later this year and early 2025, players can look forward to two additional maps, bringing the total to four, along with a new legendary spear and backpack, more secrets to uncover, and the first new Guild Wars 2 raid in five years, featuring 10-player instances that connect to the main storyline.
