The highly anticipated MMORPG Brighter Shores, inspired by classic games in the genre, is gearing up to enter Early Access later this year. This new game is the brainchild of Andrew Gower, co-founder of Jagex and former leader of the iconic RuneScape. Gower recently shared details about what players can expect from this initial release and how PvP will be integrated into the game.
Since its official announcement in March, when Brighter Shores was unveiled as an episodic, free-to-play MMORPG, Gower has kept the community informed with regular updates on social media. One of the highlights was the release of a "gummy worm" infographic that chronicles the game's development history, which began in 2010 with the creation of the game engine. Formal development of Brighter Shores started in 2016, and so far, the alpha testing has involved only about 12 people, most of whom are part of the development team.
Last week, Gower provided more details about what Early Access will mean for the game. A key point is that PvP will be an optional feature and will be available soon. Gower explained that, to ensure PvP is implemented as perfectly as possible, it won’t be ready at the initial launch, but it will be a top priority to complete shortly after. He also mentioned that the game will remain in Early Access until PvP is fully implemented.
With the introduction of PvP and growing anticipation for Early Access, the community began pressing for a release date. In response, Gower, through a humorous video featuring an NPC interrogation, revealed that Brighter Shores is slated to enter Early Access on November 5th.
