Aion 2 is set to launch with eight playable classes, more than 200 character customization options, and an open world expected to be around 36 times larger than the original Aion map. NCSoft’s MMORPG will also introduce combat built around positioning, dodging, resource management, and content designed for both PvE and PvP players.
The game takes place in Atreia, roughly 200 years after the events of the original Aion. Players will choose between Elyos and Asmodians, two playable factions hosted on separate servers. The Balaur return as a non-playable faction and remain a major threat within the game’s story.

What Classes Will Be Available in Aion 2?
Aion 2 will feature eight classes:
- Sorcerer
- Templar
- Chanter
- Assassin
- Elementalist
- Cleric
- Ranger
- Gladiator
The classes are expected to be available without gender restrictions, although some customization features may still change before release.
Character creation will offer more than 200 adjustable options, including different body types and stylized presets such as Big Head and Chibi. Players will also be able to customize their character’s wings.
How Will Combat Work in Aion 2?
Aion 2 will use a more streamlined skill system than its predecessor. Players will have roughly a dozen active abilities available on the action bar, with combat placing greater emphasis on combos, dodging, positioning, and directional attacks.
Back attacks will be detected as part of the positioning system, making movement and placement important during encounters.
Resource management will also play a significant role. Mana potions will not be available, based on the currently disclosed mechanics. Instead, mana will regenerate passively and through automatic attacks. Using abilities too aggressively can therefore leave players short on resources.
Aion 2 will also feature underwater combat and exploration. Time spent underwater will be restricted by a breathing meter, preventing characters from remaining submerged indefinitely.
How Large Is the Aion 2 Open World?
Aion 2’s world will initially be divided between Asmodae, located in the northern hemisphere of Atreia, and Elysea in the south. Other locations, including Reshanta, may also become explorable either at launch or through later updates.
The world map is expected to be approximately 36 times larger than the original Aion map. Familiar locations will return, although many will feature substantial changes.
Players will be able to explore using:
- Mounts
- Flight
- Underwater movement
Flight will primarily be used for shorter distances, while mounts will be better suited to longer journeys. Mounts can be obtained through fragments dropped by monsters found throughout the world.
Leveling, Skill Trees, and Quests
Level progression in Aion 2 is expected to be relatively fast, although the official level cap has not yet been confirmed. Early testing featured progression up to level 45, but this may change before release.
As characters level up, players will be able to invest points in skill trees, creating different builds and specializations for each class.
Quests will support auto-pathfinding, allowing characters to automatically travel toward selected objectives. The feature will be optional, so players who prefer manual exploration can disable it.
What PvE Content Will Aion 2 Offer?
Aion 2’s PvE content is expected to include solo activities, four-player dungeons, and eight-player encounters. Based on currently available information, large-scale raids are not planned for launch.
Group activities will use familiar tank, healer, and DPS roles, making balanced party composition important for more challenging encounters.
Players may also be able to join or leave groups during certain activities.
Additional PvE content will include open-world dynamic events and minigames. Some of these systems were still under development during early testing.
How Will PvP Work in Aion 2?
Large-scale battles between Elyos and Asmodians will be one of Aion 2’s main PvP formats.
Because the two factions will normally operate on separate servers, realm-versus-realm (RvR) events will provide opportunities for direct large-scale faction combat.
Aion 2 is also expected to include smaller competitive modes, including:
- 1v1 arenas
- 4v4 arenas
Crafting, Gear, and Cosmetics
Aion 2 will include a crafting system for producing equipment and cosmetic items. The complete list of professions has not yet been confirmed.
The original game featured six main crafting professions: Alchemy, Armorsmithing, Cooking, Handicrafting, Tailoring, and Weaponsmithing. Gathering materials directly from the game world was also part of the system, although Aion 2 may handle these mechanics differently.
Classic and Action Camera Modes
Aion 2 will offer multiple camera and targeting configurations.
Players will be able to switch between Classic and Action modes for both camera movement and targeting. This gives players more flexibility to adapt the controls to exploration, PvE encounters, or PvP combat.
What to Expect From Aion 2
Aion 2 is being developed as a large-scale MMORPG with eight classes, extensive character customization, a significantly expanded open world, position-based combat, PvE dungeons, faction PvP, crafting, and multiple exploration systems.
Some mechanics remain under development, meaning details such as the maximum level, available regions, crafting professions, and specific content may change before release.
