Whether you are a veteran Rover who has been exploring since launch or a newcomer joining during the hype of the 3.0 update in late 2025, keeping track of the ever-expanding roster is essential.

How Many Characters Are in Wuthering Waves?

As of December 2025, there are exactly 43 playable characters in Wuthering Waves.

This count includes the elemental variants of the Rover (Spectro and Havoc) as a single entry in the roster, although they function as two distinct units in gameplay.

The roster has grown significantly from the initial 17 characters at launch in May 2024, with developers Kuro Games consistently adding two new Resonators per patch.

The rapid expansion to 43 characters means players now have access to a complete set of healers, shielders, and DPS options for every single element.

How to Choose Your Character?

Choosing a character depends largely on the content you are facing and your preferred playstyle. You should focus on three main factors.

1. Synergy and Roles

A standard team consists of a Main DPS (damage dealer), a Sub-DPS (off-field damage/buffer), and a Support (healer/shielder).

  • If you like fast combat: Pick characters like Zani or Lingyang who rely on rapid combos.
  • If you prefer big numbers: Go for Jinhsi or Mornye, who set up massive burst hits.

2. Elemental Advantage

The Tower of Adversity often provides bonuses for specific elements. Having at least one built DPS for each element (Fusion, Havoc, Glacio, etc.) is the long-term goal.

For beginners, a neutral element like Spectro (Rover/Jinhsi) or Havoc (Rover/Camellya) is a safe investment.

3. Weapon Availability

5-star weapons make a huge difference. If you pulled a powerful 5-star Broadblade, characters like Jiyan, Calcharo, or Mornye become much more valuable to your account than a Sword user.

How to Get New Characters in Wuthering Waves?

Obtaining new characters relies on the "Convene" (gacha) system. Here is how you can expand your roster.

Limited Character Banners

Every patch features two phases of Limited Banners. This is where you get the new 5-star characters (like Lynae and Mornye in version 3.0).

You need "Radiant Tides" to pull on these. The pity system guarantees a 5-star every 80 pulls, with a 50/50 chance to get the featured character.

Standard Banners

You use "Lustrous Tides" here. There is a character banner (where you can eventually choose a guaranteed 5-star) and a weapon banner.

Characters like Verina and Calcharo are always available here.

Events and Free Units

Kuro Games frequently gives away 4-star characters during major events. Always complete the "Tower of Adversity" and "Depths of Illusive Realm" to earn Astrite (premium currency) to buy more pulls.

Note on Connection:

Pulling a character is only half the battle. To play them effectively, especially characters with tight parry windows like Danjin or Roccia, you need a stable internet connection.

High ping can make the difference between a perfect dodge and a one-shot death. NoPing helps optimize your route to the game server, reducing latency and packet loss so you can enjoy your new characters as intended.

FAQ

Who is the strongest DPS in Wuthering Waves as of late 2025?

The meta shifts, but Jinhsi and Camellya remain top-tier due to their high burst multipliers. The new 3.0 character Mornye is also competing for the top spot with her Fusion Burst mechanics.

Is the Rover worth building?

Yes. Unlike many other gacha games, the main character (Rover) is very strong. The Havoc version is a legitimate top-tier DPS, and the Spectro version is a solid sub-DPS/support.

Can I get limited characters after their banner ends?

You have to wait for a "Rerun." Popular characters usually get a rerun banner 4 to 6 months after their initial release.

What is the best 4-star character to build?

Verina (5-star standard) is the best support, but for 4-stars, Sanhua is incredible for her fast energy generation, and Mortefi is the best off-field support for heavy attack users.

Do I need 5-star weapons?

They are not mandatory for story content, but for the endgame "Tower of Adversity," a 5-star weapon provides a massive stat boost (Crit Rate/DMG) that makes clearing timed challenges much easier. The Standard Weapon Banner allows you to guarantee a specific 5-star weapon, which is a great feature to utilize.
