The Guild Wars 2 team has given a detailed preview of the spear skills in the upcoming Janthir Wilds expansion, focusing on the warrior, thief, and engineer classes.
With the expansion set to launch on August 20th, all professions will gain access to new weapon skills with the terrestrial spear, a weapon that players can master. Each class has unique mechanics and combat styles, and the new spear skills reflect these differences, expanding the tactical options available.
Warriors
Warriors, traditionally known for being on the front lines, now have the ability to maintain some distance with the spear. Some skills are aimed at single targets, while others allow for multiple enemy attacks. For instance, the auto-attack "Mighty Throw" hurls the spear at an enemy, causing a shattering explosion that hits nearby foes. Another notable skill is "Harrier's Toss," where the warrior leaps into the air and forcefully throws the spear down, dealing significant damage.
Thieves
Drawing inspiration from the original assassin kit in Guild Wars, the thief's spear functions as a hybrid melee weapon. The second and third skill slots share traits and change states as they are used. The main attack shifts the other slots into subsequent attack states, which then transform into finishers after use. Mastering the thief's spear requires speed and strategic combo execution to maximize the weapon's potential.
Engineers
Engineers, known for their ability to create and innovate, use the spear as a hybrid weapon that combines melee damage with electrical abilities. The primary skill, "Conduit Surge," uses electricity to amplify attacks. "Lightning Rod" is a persistent skill that creates an electric field around the engineer, damaging focused enemies. The "Devastation" skill allows the engineer to leap into a targeted area and execute a massive EMP-style attack, inflicting a continuous damage effect on hit enemies.
Spear Beta
A spear beta, allowing players to test these new spear skills across all professions, will be available later this month.
