Overwatch 2 enters its 17th season on June 24, bringing a wave of new content and features to players.
Among the highlights are the debut of two Mythic items at launch, the introduction of the new Map Voting system, major updates to the Stadium mode, three new maps, and a refreshed Battle Pass.
Additionally, two limited-time events are set to take place in the coming weeks.
Stadium Mode Updates
The Stadium mode, a round-based PvP format, is receiving a number of important updates. Zenyatta, Sigma, and Junkrat are now part of the Stadium roster, accompanied by two new maps: Esperança and Samoa.
The update also introduces the Stadium Forge, a system that allows players to create, save, and share team compositions. The feature offers tactical suggestions tailored to each hero and supports strategies for both the start and end of a match.
Season 17 also brings the first Stadium rank reset, giving all players a fresh start to prove their skills. Additional systems like Drives, which reward consistent performance, and Custom Games with adjustable rules, are being introduced alongside new All-Star rewards.
Map Voting System
Starting in Season 17, players will be able to influence where the action takes place through a Map Voting feature in Quick Play and Competitive modes. After role queue locks in, three random maps will be presented for voting. Each vote increases that map’s chance of selection by 10%, and the winner is picked via a roulette-style draw.
To maintain a positive experience, team chat, battle tags, and individual votes are hidden. Players who leave after voting starts will face penalties.
New Maps
Three new maps debut in Season 17, each with its own unique atmosphere and tactical elements:
- Aatlis: A vibrant Push map set in Morocco, designed for high-intensity combat, fast rotations, and a fast-paced flow.
- Esperança (Stadium): The familiar map returns in a round-based format, featuring new elevations and changing tactical options each round.
- Samoa (Stadium): A volcanic Control Point map with open arenas, vertical chaos, and ideal terrain for mobile team comps.
Battle Pass
The Premium Battle Pass for Season 17 features 8-bit themed skins for Reinhardt, Genji, and Sombra, as well as Delinquent Cole Cassidy and Professor Fawkes Junkrat. Players can also unlock Sakura Ana, two Legendary Item Boxes, 500 Credits, and a variety of cosmetic items including emotes, souvenirs, charms, name cards, and voice lines.
Up to 80 Mythic Prisms are also available to unlock Mythic Hero Skins like D.Va Horang or Reaper’s Mythic Weapon Skin, Steelblade.
The Ultimate Battle Pass Bundle includes everything from the Premium tier, plus 20 Tier Skips, 2,000 Overwatch Coins, and two bonus Legendary skins: Widowmaker Lacroix Director and Sigma Kuiper Professor.
Free-tier players can still earn a Legendary Item Box, 600 Coins, 1,500 Credits, and the 8-bit Epic Skins for Orisa and Zenyatta.
Powered Up Event
Season 17 launches with the Powered Up event, running from June 24 to June 30. By completing 17 matches in Quick Play, Competitive, or Stadium, players will earn 4 Epic Item Boxes, with a guaranteed Legendary skin in the final one.
Custom Games, Hero Mastery, and Practice vs. AI do not count toward this progress.
Hacks & Hijinx: new limited-time mode
From July 15 to July 28, the Hacks & Hijinx mode introduces a rotating modifier system in 6v6 matches. Players can expect low gravity, med kits that charge Ultimates, and unexpected mechanics that defy the game’s usual rules. Every round brings new challenges and calls for quick thinking and adaptive strategy.
This mode will be available exclusively on Control maps to allow focused experimentation and maintain a balanced pace.
