Release Date of The Third Edict

The The Third Edict expansion is scheduled for release on August 29, 2025, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Epic Games Store.

To celebrate the launch, Grinding Gear Games is hosting a free weekend from August 29 to September 1, allowing all players to experience both existing and new content without the need for an Early Access key.

This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for newcomers to familiarize themselves with the world of Path of Exile 2 and for veterans to explore the fresh additions introduced in this expansion.

The Third Edict: Exploring Ngamakanui

The new Act 4 transports players to the Ngamakanui archipelago, a region filled with mysteries and dangers. Comprising eight distinct islands, each offers unique environments, from serene beaches with the whispers of the drowned to infernal mountains and caverns where fire and lava pose constant threats.

The non-linear structure allows players to choose the order in which to explore the islands, promoting freedom of choice and strategy.

Act 4 introduces 100 new monster types, 16 new areas, and 12 new bosses, ensuring a challenging and diverse experience. Notable locations include Kingsmarch, the starting point of the adventure; Whakapanu Island, with its tranquil sands and haunted waters; and Kin Island, a hostile environment where the ground transforms into lava.

Three Interludes Replace the Cruel Difficulty

The Third Edict also replaces the previous Cruel difficulty with three temporary interludes, known as mini-acts.

These side stories take players to level 65, bridging the campaign and endgame, adding 19 new areas and 9 bosses, enriching the experience and allowing players to progress smoothly through the narrative.

  • Interlude I: Return to Ogham to assist Renly in rebuilding the village, confronting the corruption threatening the citizens.
  • Interlude II: Traverse the sands of Vastiri to aid Asala in completing a sacred oath, hunting those who disrupted the Gifting.
  • Interlude III: Scale icy mountains and caves to find the lost descendants of the Vaal, uncovering hidden secrets in ancient vaults.

These mini-campaigns not only expand the narrative but also offer new challenges and rewards, including rare items and exclusive support gems.

Rise of the Abyssal: The New League

The expansion also introduces Rise of the Abyssal, the first exclusive league for Path of Exile 2. In this league, players face abyssal fissures that release hordes of dangerous monsters.

By defeating these creatures, the Abyssal Trove emerges, offering epic rewards, including new items and gems.

The league introduces three new bosses, an Endgame Supreme Boss, and an expanded item crafting system, providing new opportunities for experimentation and character enhancement.

Overhaul of the Support Gem System

One of the most significant changes in The Third Edict is the overhaul of the support gem system. Previously, only one support gem could be used per skill; now, players can combine multiple support gems, allowing for greater diversity and customization in builds.

Support gems now have multiple levels, evolving as players progress through the campaign. Additionally, the expansion introduces 40 new Lineage Supports, rare items found on specific bosses that can significantly enhance skills, offering new strategic possibilities for endgame content.

Quality of Life Improvements

The Third Edict includes several quality of life improvements that make the gameplay experience more dynamic and accessible:

  • Sprint: Players of all classes can now sprint by holding the dodge button, facilitating navigation outside of combat. However, attacks from enemies can interrupt the sprint, adding strategic risk.
  • Asynchronous Trading: A long-requested feature, players can now buy and sell items without the seller needing to be online.
  • Item Crafting System: New orbs and higher-level currency items allow players to transform normal items into magical ones with better modifiers, enabling the creation of powerful gear.

Expanded Endgame Content

The Third Edict significantly expands endgame content by adding 25 new maps with new monsters and bosses. Notable locations include:

  • Rockpools: Beaches inhabited by sirens and the Goblin King.
  • Cliffside: A haunted city with brutal enemies, including a warrior wielding a divine axe.
  • Holten: Home to the storm reaper.

Additionally, there are uber versions of Act 4 bosses and bosses from the interludes, offering more challenging encounters and exclusive rewards, such as Lineage Support gems that can redefine and enhance skills.

Accessing The Third Edict

The Third Edict will be available on PC, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Epic Games Store. Purchasing any Early Access Supporter Pack grants immediate access to the expansion and the game itself, allowing players to enjoy all the new features from launch. Supporter packs start at R$ 79.80 on PC, including exclusive content for early adopters.

The free weekend from August 29 to September 1 is an excellent opportunity for new players to try the game without commitment and for veterans to revisit existing content with the new updates.

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict promises to transform the gaming experience with its expanded story, Act 4, interludes, new league, revamped gem system, quality of life improvements, and enhanced endgame content.
