Endgame storyline expands with the return of Zana
In Secrets of the Atlas, players face a force that is unraveling reality and warping the Atlas of Worlds. Led by the enigmatic Eagon, the objective is to explore the “Threads of Consciousness” and rescue Zana, the daughter of the Atlas’ creator.
Each area unlocked reveals new memories, enemies, and challenges, forming a new chapter in the game’s endgame. Among the highlights are:
- New endgame story: Zana returns in a narrative that dives into distorted dreamscapes. With the help of Eagon, players must explore memory fragments and restore balance to the Atlas.
- Three new Pinnacle Bosses: Fight three new endgame Guardians to unlock access to equally powerful Pinnacle Bosses. These encounters offer increased difficulty and new exclusive rewards.
- Memory-Influenced Maps: Players can now explore maps shaped by Zana’s memories, featuring unique monster behaviors and new environmental effects.
- New pinnacle items and crafting: Memory Threads introduce a new crafting mechanic, allowing players to imbue items with powerful effects that synergize with existing systems.
New challenge league: Mercenaries of Trathus
The expansion introduces Mercenaries of Trathus, a challenge league where players encounter and recruit elite warriors from a brutal land. Each mercenary has a random set of skills, equipment, and traits.
- Recruit and customize: Mercenaries can be equipped and managed throughout the league. Each faction offers exclusive modifiers and rare rewards, including Trarthan Skill Gems.
- Combat assistance: Mercenaries can be summoned to fight alongside the player. While they increase monster rewards, they also raise the difficulty, requiring proper equipment and synergy.
- League rewards: The league features 40 optional challenges. Completing them grants pieces of the cosmetic armor set Watcher’s Wrath, usable in both Path of Exile 1 and 2.
Revamped systems and quality-of-life improvements
Several systems received updates to improve player experience and progression.
- Runegrafting and Kingsmarch: After entering the endgame, players can access the city of Kalguuran and benefit from its systems without needing to build a settlement. Rune Grafting allows a passive tree mastery node to be replaced with a powerful rune effect. New Scarabs and passive tree nodes support this mechanic.
- Reworked Betrayal system: The Immortal Syndicate now retains its state between sessions and offers streamlined progression. Rewards have been updated, and hidden Chaos Orbs return to Betrayal items. Safehouse and Atlas passive nodes were also adjusted.
- Gameplay improvements: Enhancements include a better map device inventory, the ability to reveal items from anywhere, and more flexible pause options.
