With the release of Update 44 for The Elder Scrolls Online, players will be able to add two new companions to their collection. One of these companions is the mysterious High Elf Tanlorin, introduced through a new lore blog by ZeniMax.

Tanlorin's story is unveiled in a letter written by Razum-dar, a familiar face for ESO players. In the letter, Razum-dar mentions discovering information about a High Elf who was removed from his family’s records, effectively making him a renegade. What initially seems like a simple case of family exclusion becomes significant when Tanlorin’s movements begin to coincide with events of great interest to the Dominion.

Tanlorin, described as “scrappy” in the update previews, is a figure shrouded in mystery. The reasons behind his family expulsion and details of his past have been erased from official records. Razum-dar observes Tanlorin among the people—tattooed, loud, friendly, and clearly having abandoned the manners and attire of high society, despite his noble origins.

During Razum-dar’s investigation, he notices a pattern: whenever Tanlorin appears, incriminating evidence against corrupt officials emerges. In one case, a suspected embezzler was found with his private vault emptied, except for evidence that implicated him. Tanlorin, either by chance or design, was nearby on more than one occasion.

This behavior aligns perfectly with Tanlorin's passive ability in the game, which helps players unlock chests more efficiently—a reflection of his cunning actions in the storyline.

The Elder Scrolls Online Update 44 will be available for PC/Mac on October 28, with console players receiving it on November 13. Both new companions, Tanlorin and Terith-Var, can be unlocked by ESO+ members or purchased from the Crown Store.
