SNK CORPORATION has announced the release of The King Of Fighters XIII Global Match (KOF XIII GM) on Steam, expanding the availability of the 2D fighting game beyond its existing versions on PlayStation®4 and Nintendo Switch™.
The new edition enhances the online experience with the implementation of rollback netcode, improving match stability. It also introduces online lobbies that accommodate up to nine players, allowing interactions during matches and in spectator mode.
Players who purchased KOF XIII Steam Edition before its removal from the platform on January 23, 2025, will be eligible for a discount when purchasing the new version. The original version will remain available for those who already own it.
Storyline and franchise legacy
KOF XIII concludes the Ash saga, which began in KOF 2003 and KOF XI, presenting its narrative in a visual novel format from multiple perspectives, including that of protagonist Ash Crimson. The game features 36 characters, including key figures in the storyline and fighters previously released as DLC in the original edition.
Alongside its highly detailed 2D sprite graphics, the game retains the classic mechanics of the series, such as the Hyper Drive Gauge, EX Special Moves, and NEO MAX Super Special Moves, offering a dynamic and strategic combat system.
To celebrate the launch and the 30th anniversary of the The King of Fighters franchise, SNK has made the digital soundtracks of KOF XIII GM and KOF XIV available on major streaming platforms. Additionally, other digital soundtracks from the KOF series will be on sale until April 21, 2025.
