During the Tokyo Game Show, Digital Extremes announced significant updates for Warframe, revealing the upcoming major update, Koumei & the Five Fates, set to release on October 2nd. This update will introduce the 58th Warframe, Koumei, the Dice Maiden, along with a new mission called Shrine Defense, a rework for Caliban, and various enhancements to the companion system and overall player experience.
New Warframe: Koumei and Her Luck-Based Abilities
Koumei will feature a unique skill set entirely reliant on RNG (random number generation). This means each ability will have unpredictable effects, requiring players to adapt quickly. For example, her Kumihimo traps can deal damage or inflict negative status effects on enemies based on the dice rolls. Additionally, Koumei will have the protective ability Omamori, which generates orbs around her that randomly convert damage into health or shields.
Her ultimate ability, Bunraku, allows her to control enemies like puppets, inflicting various status effects while manipulating them.
Shrine Defense: New Defense Mission
The new Shrine Defense mode will involve defending a terrestrial settlement from hordes of Infested invaders. Players will need to hold out until the arrival of the new mini-boss, Oni Carnis, while collecting shrine offerings. This mission offers rewards such as crafting pieces for Koumei and her exclusive weapons: Higasa, a gunbrella, and Amanata, a polearm inspired by the Naginata.
Caliban Rework and Companion System Improvements
Caliban will undergo a complete rework, making his abilities more versatile. As part of the celebration, players who log in between October 2nd and 16th will be able to unlock Caliban for free.
Warframe: 1999 Demo and New Missions
On October 16th, a new demo for Warframe: 1999 will be available, where Arthur explores the city of Höllvanian in an extermination mission against a new faction, the Scaldra. Successfully completing the mission will reward players with the new Protokol Longsword skin. The demo will remain available until the official launch of Warframe: 1999 in the winter.
Graphical Improvements and PS5 Pro Compatibility
In addition to gameplay updates, Digital Extremes confirmed graphical enhancements, especially with the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro, elevating the game's visual quality.
