A single day in GTA 6 could last two hours and 24 minutes in real time, three times longer than the 48-minute day-night cycle in GTA 5. The figure was reported by ComicBook on November 1, 2026, based on leaks and estimates. Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed how long a full day will last in the game.
How long will a day last in GTA 6?
The reported 2-hour-and-24-minute cycle does not come from an official Rockstar announcement. According to ComicBook, the estimate is based on leaked information and calculations derived from it. The figure also matches the comparison with GTA 5: 144 minutes is exactly three times 48 minutes.
In October, EDGE magazine had already reported that days in GTA 6 would be "much longer" than in previous entries in the series. However, the publication did not provide specific figures or explain the difference in detail.

GTA 6 day-night cycle compared with other open-world games
According to IGN Brasil, which covered the report, the full day-night cycles in other open-world games are:
- GTA 5: 48 minutes
- Red Dead Redemption 2: 48 minutes
- Cyberpunk 2077: Approximately three hours
- Crimson Desert: Approximately two hours
At nearly two and a half hours, GTA 6 would have a day-night cycle closer to those in Cyberpunk 2077 and Crimson Desert.
Why is Rockstar changing the pace of time?
According to ComicBook, Rockstar initially wanted to maintain the same passage of time used in GTA 5. However, studio co-director Rob Nelson said that at that speed, "everything felt too fast." His comments suggest that extending the day-night cycle was a design decision made during development.
Player reactions point to similar concerns. One Reddit user said that time passed too quickly in Red Dead Redemption 2, while another player on X said they hoped sunsets would last longer.
What could longer days change in Vice City?
Rockstar has not confirmed any gameplay mechanics connected to the longer day-night cycle. IGN Brasil's analysis points to several possibilities:
- More time to explore beaches, streets and nightclubs during each period of the day.
- NPC behavior that changes depending on the time.
- Shops and other businesses with individual opening hours.
- Missions that can only be completed at night.
Some of these features already appear in Red Dead Redemption 2. The possibility is that Rockstar could expand them in GTA 6.
