The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe is one of the main bosses in Phantom Blade Zero. Defeating this enemy is required to unlock the Phantom Edge Hunter’s Chain Sickle. According to the guide, this weapon also serves as a traversal tool, allowing players to access new areas in the game, released on October 29, 2026.
How to Defeat The Hunt in Phantom Blade Zero
Equip Jagged Steel as your main weapon, upgrade it to the highest level possible, and parry whenever you get the opportunity. When the boss suffers a Guard Break, switch to Jagged Steel and repeatedly use its special attack to build up Bleed damage. Finish the sequence with Jagged Steel Rampage during the final moment of the Guard Break.
The encounter has two phases. In the first, the boss is called The Hunt, Hunter of the Order. In the second, its name changes to The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe.

Best Equipment for Fighting The Hunt
Game Rant recommends the following build:
- Main Weapon: Jagged Steel
- Secondary Weapon: Sanguine Twin
- Phantom Edge: Dread Axe
- Hunter’s Insight: +7% damage and Sha-Chi depletion against attacking enemies
- Token of Pursuit: +7% damage against enemies suffering Guard Break
- Battle Wraps: +5% damage against enemies
Jagged Steel inflicts Bleed on enemies that are not puppets or fake bodies, making it the most useful weapon against The Hunt.
What Strategy Works in Both Boss Phases?
The overall strategy remains the same in both phases, although the second phase is considerably harder to execute. Parry whenever possible and hold your guard if the boss's unpredictable attacks become difficult to handle. If you run out of Sha-Chi, switch your main weapon to recover it immediately.
Your secondary weapon plays a minor role because you should switch back to Jagged Steel as soon as the boss suffers Guard Break. While the boss is vulnerable, repeatedly use the special attack to inflict heavy Bleed damage.
Once you have enough Soul to activate Jagged Steel Rampage, use it during the final second of Guard Break. This unblockable attack can stagger and immobilize the enemy, even when Sha-Chi is available. Timing is important: using it too early may allow the boss to recover before the combo begins.
Phase 1: The Hunt, Hunter of the Order – All Attacks
During the first phase, the boss wields two chain sickles, one in each hand. They function as axes in close combat and as bladed whips at range. Most attacks have clear visual cues, making this phase easier to read.
- Whipping Scythe: Extends the sickle to its maximum range, swings it in several wide arcs, and finishes with a vertical strike. Parryable, with a blue flash on the final vertical attack.
- Overhead Whipping Scythe: Brings the blades down in several vertical arcs before advancing with an overhead strike. Parryable, with a blue flash.
- Whirlwind Swing: Jumps in place and spins the sickle around its body at close range. Parryable, with a blue flash at the end of the spin.
- Slide Chop: Dodges sideways and rushes forward with a vertical strike, followed by a knee attack if it connects. Unblockable, with a red flash.
- Overhead Swing: Performs a stationary vertical strike at close range. Unblockable, with a red flash.
- Backspin Swing: Spins the sickle overhead and releases the chain midway through the attack to extend its range. Unblockable, with a red flash.
After defeating the first-phase boss, The Hunt transforms into The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe. This transformation is permanent. The boss will not return to its Hunter form, even if the player dies.
Phase 2: The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe – All Attacks
In the second phase, The Hunt gains two additional arms, each equipped with a chain sickle, bringing its total to four weapons. The boss also becomes more aggressive and gains several new attacks.
- Backpedal: Leans backward, retreats, and throws several sickles in succession at Soul. Parryable.
- Whirlwind: Spins the sickles with both hands at close range, first vertically and then horizontally, creating increasingly wide arcs. The whirlwind obscures visibility and tracks the player across the arena. Parryable.
- Downward Slam: Slams the ground and creates a danger zone ahead of the boss, which explodes into white mist after a short delay. Unblockable.
- Overhead Swings: Performs two overhead strikes, pauses briefly, and finishes with a thrust from both lower-arm sickles. Parryable, with a blue flash.
- Flying Whirlwind: Jumps and swings the sickles in two large arcs. Parryable, with a blue flash on the second arc.
- Sideways Swings: Turns sideways and swings the sickles in four wide arcs. Parryable, with a blue flash on the final attack.
- Four Scythe Slam: Leans forward, pauses briefly, and launches all four sickles straight at Soul. Unblockable, with a red flash.
- Red Whirlwind: Repeats the Whirlwind attack and finishes with two overhead sickle strikes. Unblockable, with a red flash.
- Purple Chains: After losing one-third of its health, the boss jumps toward the waterfall and summons purple chains across the arena. Once all chains appear, it descends with a red-flashing attack. Unblockable.
