During ESO Direct 2025, ZeniMax Online Studios unveiled a range of updates for The Elder Scrolls Online. Leading the announcements was Seasons of the Worm Cult, a new expansion that will take players to the island of Solstice and continue the storyline from the base game—marking a first in the MMO’s history.

The studio also revealed a major shift in how content will be delivered going forward. Starting this year, ESO will move away from its traditional annual chapter model, opting instead for a more flexible release structure that emphasizes experimentation and greater content variety.

As part of this change, ZeniMax introduced the 2025 Content Pass, which grants access to all major updates planned for the year. Included are both parts of Seasons of the Worm Cult, two dungeon packs (Fallen Banners and Feast of Shadows), and the world-changing Writhing Wall in-game event, scheduled for later in the year.

New Systems and Additional Content

The first part of Seasons of the Worm Cult launches on June 2 for PC/Mac and June 18 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Set on the island of Solstice, the new storyline is split by the mysterious Writhing Wall, a massive magical barrier controlled by the Worm Cult. This wall will become the focal point of a late-year collaborative event, where players must work together to break through and unlock Part 2 of the expansion.

Alongside the expansion, Update 46 will go live—a free base game update that introduces key features. Among them is a new Subclassing system, which allows players to swap up to two of their current Skill Lines with those from other classes, enabling new hybrid builds and more personalized gameplay styles.

Returning players will benefit from the new Hero’s Return system, designed to reintroduce them to the world of Tamriel. Completing the onboarding process will earn them in-game rewards to help them reintegrate into the game.

Additionally, ZeniMax announced a limited podcast series in collaboration with Kinda Funny, celebrating ESO’s 10-year journey. The four-episode series features discussions between the development team and Kinda Funny members, with the first episode released on Friday, April 11.
