Blizzard has just confirmed: Diablo IV Season 10: Infernal Chaos will arrive on September 23, 2025.
From the first announcements, it’s clear that this will be one of the most ambitious seasons yet, with new chaos mechanics, revamped endgame systems, and items that promise to change the way the game is played.
What is “Infernal Chaos”?
Diablo IV Season 10 is themed entirely around absolute chaos. “Infernal Chaos” introduces systems designed to make nothing predictable, challenging both veterans and newcomers with reimagined mechanics.
Bartuc, the former Warlord of Blood, returns to Sanctuary as the Lord of Chaos, distorting the battlefield with chaotic portals. Endgame modes, loot, class perks, and unique items are also being updated to fit the theme.

Release date
The season begins on September 23, 2025. Expected to follow the usual seasonal cycle of several weeks to months.
Main new features announced
Blizzard revealed several core elements for Season 10. Here are the highlights:
Bartuc, Lord of Chaos
Bartuc returns as the Lord of Chaos, a more powerful version with new abilities and a focus on battlefield disruption.
He uses Chaos Portals to summon projectiles, reposition, and alter fight tactics.
During the reworked Infernal Hordes, players can choose to face Bartuc by spending Aether. Defeating him grants top rewards, including a guaranteed source of Chaos Armor.
Revamped Infernal Hordes
The endgame wave-based mode gets major updates. Infernal Offerings between rounds have been adjusted and rebalanced.
A new type of wave (Chaos Waves) will appear occasionally. These bring tough modifiers but also much greater Aether rewards for survivors.
The Fell Council fight is upgraded: one member becomes the Council Speaker, gaining enhanced abilities.
A new entry-level variant, Fleeting Hordes, offers a shorter run (four waves) with fewer offerings and a boss fight against two Council members, aimed at players progressing through lower difficulties.
Chaos Perks and Chaos Armor
These are among the most impactful new mechanics in Season 10:
- Chaos Perks:
- Seasonal perk system with both general and class-specific options.
- Players can pick from a pool of 16 perks: three non-unique plus one unique, with one class perk per rarity (Magic, Rare, Legendary, Unique).
- Builds gain new depth through perk combinations, opening synergies that didn’t exist before.
- Chaos Armor:
- Unique items can now appear in upgraded “Chaos” versions.
- Always spawn at maximum power and with at least one Greater Affix.
- Restricted to armor slots (helm, chest, gloves, pants, boots).
- However, Chaos Armor never appears in its original slot. For example, if a Unique usually drops as boots, its Chaos version may appear as a helm or chest, but never as boots.
- Normal and Chaos versions of the same Unique cannot be equipped together.
Together, these systems massively expand build diversity, letting players create setups that were impossible before.
Chaos Rifts
- New unstable portals appear across Sanctuary, especially during Helltide events and Nightmare Dungeons.
- Defeating Chaos monsters seals the rift, rewarding loot, XP, gems, and in higher Torment difficulties, Chaos Armor.
- Rare Mythic Chaos Rifts provide harder challenges with greater rewards.
- They also bring unique dungeon modifiers to Nightmare runs, making them even more unpredictable.
Player strategies and expectations
Here’s what these changes mean for players:
- Experiment with hybrid builds
Chaos Armor frees up slots, letting players equip combinations of Uniques that were impossible before. - Master Chaos Perks
Choosing the right perk set will heavily influence seasonal meta and performance. - Invest in Infernal Hordes
Chaos Waves push players to their limits, but yield some of the best rewards of the season. - Farm Chaos Rifts
These rifts offer loot, reputation, and resources to improve Chaos Perks. Mythic versions in Torment difficulties will be essential for endgame farming. - Prioritize seasonal reputation
Reputation progression tied to Chaos Rifts and Infernal Distortions will unlock powerful upgrades. - Push Torment difficulties
The strongest loot, including high-tier Chaos Armor, will drop only at the highest levels.
Unanswered questions
Some details remain uncertain:
- How exactly the seasonal reputation system tied to Infernal Distortions will work.
- Whether Chaos mechanics will carry over to the Eternal Realm or remain seasonal.
- Balance of Chaos Perks ,especially the Unique ones, and their long-term effect on meta.
- What happens to Chaos Armor after the season ends, a concern already debated by the community.
Season 10: Infernal Chaos looks set to be one of Diablo IV’s boldest updates yet. With revamped Infernal Hordes, Chaos Rifts, Chaos Armor, Chaos Perks, and the return of Bartuc as a central antagonist, the season emphasizes unpredictability and depth.
