The Path of Exile 2 release date for Early Access has already passed, but the journey through Wraeclast is only just getting started as we look toward the full launch.
If you are an Action RPG fan, you have likely been following Grinding Gear Games’ massive sequel closely.
Now that we are deep into the Early Access phase, it is the perfect time to recap what has happened, what is happening right now with the new updates, and when we can expect the complete version of the game.
Whether you are a veteran exile or a newcomer wondering if your PC can handle the corruption, this guide covers everything you need to know.
When Was the Early Access Release?
Path of Exile 2 officially launched into Early Access on December 6, 2024.
This was the moment players finally got their hands on the standalone sequel. Unlike the original plan to just update the first game, PoE 2 arrived as a separate client with its own mechanics, physics, and combat systems.
At launch, the Early Access version included:
- Three Acts: A significant portion of the campaign, featuring new environments and bosses.
- Six Classes: The Warrior, Monk, Ranger, Sorceress, Mercenary, and Witch.
- Endgame Systems: Access to the Atlas of Worlds and widely loved league mechanics like Delirium and Breach.
It is important to remember that access to this phase required purchasing a Supporter Pack, a model similar to the one used for The Fall of Oriath beta years ago.
What Is the Current State of the Game (December 2025)?
We are currently approaching a major milestone. If you are reading this around December 10, 2025, you are just in time for the massive content update titled "The Last of the Druids," which drops on December 12, 2025.
This update is a game-changer for the Early Access period. It introduces the long-awaited Druid class, allowing players to shapeshift into powerful forms like a wolf, bear, or even a fire-breathing wyvern.
Along with the new class, this update brings a new Ascendancy, a fresh league mechanic, and a challenging new Pinnacle boss to test your builds.
Even better, Grinding Gear Games has announced a Free Weekend from December 12 to December 15, 2025. This is the perfect opportunity to try the game without buying a key if you have been on the fence.
When Is the Full Release Date?
The full "1.0" version of Path of Exile 2 is targeted for 2026.
While the developers at Grinding Gear Games initially hoped for a faster turnaround, they have been transparent about needing time to polish the remaining acts and classes.
The full release will significantly expand the game beyond what is currently available.
The final version is expected to include:
- Six Acts: The complete campaign story.
- Twelve Classes: Adding the remaining archetypes that are not yet in the Early Access build.
- Complete Ascendancies: Three Ascendancy classes for every base class.
- Refined Endgame: A fully fleshed-out Atlas and endgame boss ecosystem.
Until then, the game will continue to receive regular updates—like the Druid expansion—to bridge the gap.
What Platforms Is It On?
You can play Path of Exile 2 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
One of the biggest wins for this sequel is the inclusion of Cross-Play and Cross-Progression. This means you can team up with friends regardless of whether they are on a console or PC.
- Cross-Play: A PC player can party up with a PS5 player seamlessly.
- Cross-Progression: Your characters and progress are saved to your account, not your device. You can play on your PC in the morning and switch to your Xbox on the couch in the evening.
Note: While gameplay progress is shared, be aware that some microtransactions (especially on Sony platforms) may be platform-locked due to store policies. However, the core gameplay loop remains uninterrupted.
Is Path of Exile 2 Free to Play?
Yes and no. It depends on when you jump in.
- During Early Access (Now): You generally need to purchase a Supporter Pack (starting around $30 USD) to get a key. However, special events like the upcoming Free Weekend in December 2025 allow temporary free access.
- At Full Release (2026): The game will be 100% Free-to-Play.
Grinding Gear Games maintains their "Ethical Microtransactions" philosophy. You cannot pay for power.
Real money is used only for cosmetic items (skins, skill effects) and quality-of-life stash tabs. If you bought stash tabs in PoE 1, the developers have stated that many of these will carry over to PoE 2, respecting the investment of long-time players.
What Are the System Requirements?
PoE 2 is visually stunning, with physically based rendering and detailed animations. However, it is optimized to run on a wide range of hardware.
Minimum Requirements
- OS: Windows 10
- Processor: Intel Core i7-7700 or AMD Ryzen 5 2500X
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (3GB), AMD Radeon RX 470, or Intel Arc A380

Why Your Connection Matters
In an ARPG like Path of Exile 2, one second of lag can mean the difference between life and death.
When you are fighting endgame bosses or running high-tier maps, the screen is filled with projectiles and effects.
You need your inputs to register instantly to dodge slam attacks or use your movement skills effectively.
High ping or packet loss can cause "rubberbanding," where your character snaps back to a previous position, usually right into a lethal attack.
This is where NoPing becomes essential. Our software optimizes the route your connection takes to the game server, bypassing congested nodes and ensuring the lowest possible latency.
Whether you are racing in the new league or trying out the Druid class, a stable connection is just as important as your build.
Here’s how to use NoPing to fix high ping in online games:
- Sign-up through the website and download NoPing (you can test it for free).
- Open NoPing and search for your game inside the software

- Once you find it, click on it and, on the next screen, select “Choose automatic” or “Choose manual” and click “Continue”. We recommend choosing automatic, as NoPing’s technology analyzes all routes on a global scale and automatically selects the best option for you.

- On the next screen, click on “Optimize Game”.

- And that’s it, you can start playing with optimized ping!
You can test different servers within NoPing to see which gives you the lowest latency.
Path of Exile 2 is shaping up to be the genre-defining ARPG of the generation. With the "Last of the Druids" update arriving on December 12, 2025, and the full release on the horizon for 2026, there has never been a better time to dive in.
